Ayla Nereo is a composer, singer, dancer, filmmaker, and multi-disciplinary artist. Her music weaves vocal looping, poetry, electronic production, folk, ceremonial sound, and the rhythms of our living world. But it is her voice that carries the transmission, and has an uncanny ability to disarm and crack open the heart.

Homeschooled in the rural lands of northern Cali, Ayla was raised on Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Celtic melodies, opera, and ABBA — musical foundations that still weave through her songs. She has built a body of work across eight solo albums, moving between intimate folk recordings, produced electronic works, and large-scale elemental projects. 

Ayla's music has reached millions of listeners worldwide. Her collaborations include The Polish Ambassador (Wildlight), Rising Appalachia, Clozee, Mr. Lif, and she is one-fifth of the folk-supergroup Starling Arrow. She is also a film director, dancer, choreographer, producer, and a guide for empowered expression and song-channeling.

Her live performances are known for an embodied authenticity that is impossible to miss. The gestures transmitting each lyric’s meaning, dancing her songs as she sings them – Ayla’s voice, movement, and presence together create a force field that gives audiences permission to be real, vulnerable, and alive. Each performance holds us in the heart and doesn't let go.

Her current work is SOVEREIGN KIN, a four-album elemental saga. ‘Book I: The Spark’ was released in 2023. 'Book II: Dreamwaters' arrives this fall, accompanied by a highly anticipated immersive live experience — a large-scale collaboration and transmission for and from the Waters.

 

She is currently releasing two albums as alternating singles – REIMAGINATION & RECALIBRATION — one, her most beloved songs reborn as organic house and dance music, the other, wordless ambient vocal meditations made for stillness. Movement and rest, released as one complete cycle.
